Jess' Journal

Hello Family!
Thought I would update everyone on what we are up to here in Mexico :)

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday we teach English in our home. This started with just a few kids and has now grown to about 12 students. On average we have been adding about 2 students per week. We would have never expected it to grow so quickly. Last week we were able to purchase 12 more chairs. This has helped a ton with keeping things organized and neat in the classroom. We were using buckets and a highchair along with our 8 other chairs that we had :)

At the beginning of each class, I read (In Spanish) a Bible story to the students. We have a deal with the students, if they correct my reading and speaking then I will teach them English for free. They are happy and excited to help and learn for free of course :) Little do they know, this allows us to open up a door to share the gospel with them and their families!

We also have been giving out free purified water (as Bruce already shared in an earlier post). Our plan was to give the water jugs out the families of the children in our English Class. But it has kind of spread like wild fire here...so we are now just giving it to whoever comes to the door asking for it, as well as the other families.

Last week Bruce put together a brochure for the water. And this week, a dear Brother in the Lord, from the States translated it into Spanish for us. So, this week we will be able to give the brochures out with the refilled jug. When we give people water, most of them just look at us funny and say "Gracias" :) Our Spanish is not good enough yet to fully explain, so the brochure will be helpful.

Also, many people have asked us what we need here and what they can send to us in Texas. (We need to renew our visas). So I put together a list of "would be nice to have" stuff :) Here it is:

Hangers (kid and adult size)
Rubber scraper spatula's
cutting board
sippy cup
School supplies (markers, crayons, glue, scissors, sharpeners, pencils, paint, play dough, etc.)

A large need is clothing. We were unaware of how cold is gets here in the winter...down to the low 20's. There are also no heaters in the homes here...so we need to bundle up LOL The good thing is that the cold doesn't last very long. Only about 6 weeks or so. The rest of the winter is mild...around the 50's. So if you have extra clothing laying around and would like to send it, that would be great! We are in need of pants, long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, warm pajamas, slippers (all tile floors) and shoes.
Moses: Size 2T, Shoe size 6-7
Samuel: Size 3-4T, Shoe size 9-10
Hannah: Size 5-6, Shoe size 9-10
Avah: Size 7-8, Shoe size 12-1
Shelby: Pants 12, Shirts 14-16, Shoe size 6
Victoria: Shoe size 9.5-10

Thank you for thinking of us! I'm not sure how the Early Church Missionaries persevered without technology :) We are so blessed to be able to keep in touch and be encouraged by other believers!

Also, as of right now, we will be staying in Texas (address below) from November 1-5. We have to exit Mexico by the 6th of November at the latest. We will keep everyone informed as the time draws near :)
Love you all
